Whether you’re fairly new to the business or a seasoned professional, if you work hard and can have a laugh then you’ll find plenty of reasons to work with Pirate:
Jamie Mustow – Freelance Carpenter & Pirate
Working for Pirate Crew has allowed me to gain further experience within theatre and events. It has furthered my career and enabled me to work alongside other talented individuals. Some of the jobs have been tremendously challenging but the people you work with can get you through anything.
Tom Rooney – Freelance Technician & Pirate
Out of the number of crewing companies I’ve worked for Pirate stand out as being my favoured employer by far. I really enjoy working in the theatre and increasing my skill set, opposed to only humping and bumping heavy gear, although I’m always happy to do that too. Pirate have a positive relationship and communication with the crew, something lacking in the vast majority of other similar companies who show little or no respect to reliable, hardworking crew members. After working in several industries it has always baffled me how employers/management show no interest in retaining good reliable staff! Pirate’s approach is different than this and that can only be of a benefit to us as employees, the company as a whole and ultimately the client.
Jonathan Goldstone – Freelance Technician and Pirate
What I like about Pirate Crew is that you’ll be working with experienced technicians, not just people who are good at lifting. Every theatre technician has to crew sometimes, but Pirate makes sure their clients know what your skills are so they can use you to the best of your abilities. That way you gain experience, rather than lose skills because they aren’t being used. You’re paid on time, the work is varied and if Pirate likes what you do its regular as well.
Aaron Pemberton – Freelance Technician & Pirate
I’ve been with Pirate Crew for 2 years and in my time with the company I have learned new skills and developed existing skills.
I enjoy working for Pirate Crew for a multitude of reasons; the camaraderie amongst fellow pirates and how we always push each other to strive for greatness and be the best that we can be, the ever changing working environments – be that in a theatre, a festival site or warehouse, it makes you adaptable to what ever challenges you face on a job.
I really like that the managers/directors actually seem to care about the crew that work for them and are always happy to listen and help with any issues; be that personal or professional. They’ll listen to your strengths and weaknesses and place you on jobs accordingly, occasionally putting you on a job/department which you maybe lack in, helping you learn & progress as an individual.
I hope to continue working and building my relationship with Pirate Crew both professionally and personally.
Joe Rogerson – Freelance Technician & Pirate
As a freelancer, I have many different pools of income with various crews or agencies in and around London. My favourite to work for is Pirate Crew. In my 2 years with Pirate crew I’ve gained extensive experience in theatre crewing and worked extensively in the West End beyond. I love seeing how the different shows are assembled and the work that goes on behind the scenes. I can’t accentuate enough how nice it is getting paid every week without fail.
Despite not being the most experienced crew member when I started, Pirate has given me chance to learn loads of skills from LX to rigging, and instilled a general sense of confidence that is essential when it comes to working on big projects with lots to be done.
My first job for Pirate I was sweeping a floor in the Tate, this week I will be one of a team of stage technicians helping to assemble the set for the Olivier Awards. And next week… Who knows?
Martin Thompson – Head Of Stage & Pirate
As the Head of Stage at a production house I love getting out and doing extra work for Pirate Crew. The guys are great and all skilled. Everyone seems to have the same positive attitude to get the job done. I would highly recommend working with Pirate to any technical professional.
Chris Gibbs – Sound Designer & Pirate
I have been able to work throughout Europe for Pirate crew, working for huge clients. They always pay very promptly and without fuss.
Gary Pell – Head of Stage, National Theatre & Honorary Pirate
Working for Pirate is a great way of making the step between technician and production staff. You get to work on loads of new productions, meet other professionals and you get to use your brain.
