Raising the Stage at Hammersmith Apollo

By March 25, 2019No Comments

Hammersmith’s legendary live music venue the Eventim Apollo enlisted the help of our Pirate technicians to transform the sloping auditorium into a split level flat floor using their custom built Prolyte Stagedex system.

The Eventim Apollo – renowned for hosting global superstars like David Bowie, Kate Bush and The Rolling Stones, and staging sell-out runs from comedians Michael McIntyre and Billy Connolly – can reinvent it’s space for premium corporate entertaining in one of the largest deployments of its kind in the world.

This allows them to hold such illustrious events such as The Global Awards and the Mercury Music Awards.

After being recommended by Davie Bell from Stage Electrics we have come on board to run the deployments and help maintain the system.

One of our Production Carpenters and three of our Senior Technicians lead a team of 12 Pirates Crew to unload and accurately build the decking, which consists of over 400 decks and over 12,000 legs when it is in it full format!

We can build the full system complete with bracing, handrails, treads and ramps in a speedy 12 hours, which means the Eventim Apollo team can avoid a break in programming whenever they need to change the format of the auditorium.

As always with our gigs we aim to integrate ourselves as an extension of the Eventim Apollo team.

During planning for each event, the Apollo technical management are provided with constant communication from Pirate Crew, along with the required technical input at production meetings, specific risk assessments AND a full CDM plan package for the Crew on the day.

Perfect planning and preparation prevents……

The bespoke staging system is a just-fit in the auditorium and has been shaped to the specifics of the space, therefore the gig can be quite tricky to get exactly right. Along with building the system we also perform any maintenance required to keep the equipment looking good and in working condition.

Working closely with the Apollo team is necessary in the planning of each deployment and running the delivery yard during the builds. Hopefully our input makes their lives much easier in their busy venue!

We’re looking forward to continuing to build a strong working relationship with them. Working in such a historic venue is obviously a massive added perk on this one. We love it.
